Elite Mississippi running back prospect Cam Akers recently narrowed his massive offer sheet down to a manageable list of 10 schools, with six SEC programs – Ole Miss, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee – making the list.

With each school having a realistic shot to land Akers, the five-star prospect joined the SEC Recruiting Buzz Podcast with Keith Niebuhr and Kipp Adams to give the latest on his recruitment.

On Ole Miss:

“Definitely got love for the Rebels, home-state school that’s recruiting me really hard. I got a good relationship with the coaches… They tell the truth. Coach Freeze is a real standup guy (running back’s) Coach (Derrick) Nix also, they do things the right way.”

On LSU:

“I recently just took a trip down there and I really had a good time. I really felt like family when I went down there, they really showed me a good time and treated me well.”

On Alabama (Akers was at one time committed to the Crimson Tide):

“I decommitted but they are still recruiting me pretty hard. I still have love for the Crimson Tide.”

On Auburn:

“Coach Malzahn, (offensive coordinator) Coach (Rhett) Lashlee, (running back’s) Coach (Tim) Worton, they all real straight up they tell the truth, you can tell by the way they talk, they are recruiting me well. They recruit my family also, they do things the right way. They are one of the RBU’s around here.”

On Georgia:

“I definitely like the Bulldogs. Coach (Jim) Chaney, Coach Smart they recruiting me well also. I feel like family when I’m there.”

On Tennessee:

“I definitely like Tennessee a lot also you know. They are a traditional school, they are on the rise. I believe that this year, depending on the type of year they have, they could possibly take the SEC East depending on how good they play.”

Akers went into further detail indicating he believed Alabama and Georgia to be the two schools known as “RBU” over all others in his mind. The running back also said he was leaning toward the Vols winning the East with Georgia serving as their primary contenders. The five-star prospect indicated he has studied the depth charts of each school in his Top 10 and the opportunity to play early will likely be a factor in his final decision.

Akers has been described by some as a more powerful Ezekiel Elliott. While projected to play running back in college, Akers lines up at quarterback for his high school team and has racked up over 5,000 passing yards, 47 passing touchdowns, 2,998 rushing yards and 37 rushing touchdowns thus far in his three-year career.

Judging by his highlight reel, his five-star ranking is certainly justified:
