In today’s college sports world, Russell Athletic isn’t the brand it once was. Now more popular at the high school level — although Nike, Reebok and Under Armour have their presence there as well with the elite programs at the high school level, Russell Athletic just isn’t very popular at the collegiate level.

However, Georgia Tech is one of the few major level football programs that is still sponsored by Russell Athletic. While that fact may not be totally ideal for the program in terms of status, head coach Paul Johnson found one silver lining in the school’s current apparel deal.

It appears Georgia Tech has little chance of getting caught up in the FBI’s college basketball and adidas sting, something even the surly Johnson has to be happy about this week.
