Greg McElroy reveals his top 5 returning QBs, says top 2 are closer than many realize
Greg McElroy is out with his top 5 returning quarterbacks for this season, and the top 2 are expected names, however, the ESPN analyst noted that the gap between Caleb Williams of USC and Drake Maye of Notre Carolina is closer than many realize.
McElroy admitted that Maye didn’t play great down the stretch last season, but his special talent is the ability to keep plays alive. As for Williams?
“There’s nobody like him in college football,” McElroy said. “He’s so accurate, so athletic, being able to keep plays alive, makes everyone around him better, and even if all 10 other offensive players are having an off day, that offense is still going to get 40-plus points (per game).”

Rounding out his list are Michael Penix Jr. of Washington, Jalon Daniels of Kansas and Jordan Travis of Florida State.
McElroy called Daniels maybe the most underrated player in college football, and Penix had a tremendous season last year with the Huskies offensive staff, and now they must back it up with elevated expectations.
Travis is not only the focal point of the offense, but last season also developed into the dependable leader that he needs to be, McElroy said.
