Greg Sankey spoke with Saturday Down South’s own Matt Hayes on “92.5 Jax Sports Radio” on Tuesday. One of the topics that came up was bowl games.

Sankey stated that he would be interested in ranking teams 1-82 for bowl season down the road. The rankings would not depend on the winning or losing record of a team.

Fans last saw something like that during the shortened Covid-19 season in 2020. Sankey justified his remarks by discussing how there were times during that season where the teams with losing records beat the better teams.

“We sort of did that during the Covid year,” said Sankey. “And sometimes the teams with losing records beat the teams with winning records.”

This move would definitely shake things up when it comes to bowl matchups in the future. The current format makes it so that a team must win at least six games and have only one win against an FCS team.

The bowl game landscape would look completely different if teams with losing records started to become bowl-eligible in the future.
