A pair of unbeatens will face off on Saturday in the Carrier Dome as No. 8 LSU travels to Upstate New York to take on Syracuse.

LSU is off to a 2-0 start, having defeated two SEC opponents in as many games to open the season. The Tigers will hit the road to take on a Syracuse team that is 3-0 for the first time since 1991.

This meeting will be the third in which LSU and Syracuse face off. The teams last met in 1989 in Tampa, Fla., in the Hall of Fame Bowl. The Orange won that game, 23-10. And overall, the series is knotted at 1-1.

Saturday’s game will mark the teams’ first regular-season contest as well as LSU’s first-ever trip to the Carrier Dome.

Here are five LSU players to watch against the Orange:

1. LB Duke Riley or Lamar Louis: Starting linebacker Deion Jones was ejected last week in the Tigers’ win against Auburn and, as a result, will be forced to sit out the first half against Syracuse this weekend. Louis, a senior, is already the starting Sam backer and boasts 17 career starts for the LSU defense. Riley has played in 28 consecutive games since joining LSU, including one start in 2014 in place of an injured Louis. Both backers should see action as the Tigers aim to quell Syracuse running back Jordan Fredericks.

2. RB Leonard Fournette: This should come as a surprise to no one as the true sophomore will try to build on his Heisman Trophy resume. However, Fournette will be forced to do so against a Syracuse rush defense that has allowed 46.7 yards on the ground per game, which is third-best in the nation. Fournette has averaged a whopping 8.2 yards per carry and has 387 yards and six touchdowns through two games already. It’ll be a battle of strength vs. strength in the Carrier Dome.

3. LT Jerald Hawkins: The LSU offensive line has received a ton of praise this week for paving the way for Fournette, and rightfully so. Often not mentioned is the fact that the LSU offensive line has surrendered just one sack thus far in two contests. Syracuse is tied for 13th in the country with 9.0 sacks through three games. The Orange will try to pressure Brandon Harris to try and force the sophomore quarterback into mistakes. Hawkins is responsible for protecting his blindside and keeping the likes of Luke Arciniega, who has 4.0 sacks, off his game.

4. DT Davon Godchaux: With Zack Mahoney expected to get the nod under center in place of injured freshman starter Eric Dungey, pressure will be key to LSU’s success on defense. Godchaux has notched 3.0 sacks and 3.0 tackles for loss in two games so far. The 6-foot-4, nearly 300-pound defensive tackle should be able to not only put pressure on Syracuse’s walk-on quarterback but use his height to try and bat down pass attempts. Additionally, Godchaux will be imperative to LSU’s attempt to slow down Fredericks and the Orange’s rushing attack, which may be relied on heavily with a new starter at quarterback.

5. S Jamal Adams: Adams leads the LSU defense with 3.0 pass defenses and has the unit’s only interception in addition to a pair of pass breakups. This week, he and the rest of the Tigers’ secondary should be able to feast on Syracuse’s Mahoney, who took over the offense in overtime last week against Central Michigan and has attempted only four passes on the season. This is a prime opportunity for the LSU pass defense.
