Here’s a list of the most intriguing quarterback battles to look forward to this offseason. It’s time for some guys to rise up and take over.

1. Jacob Coker vs. Blake Barnett, Alabama
2. Connor Mitch vs. Perry Orth vs. Lorenzo Nunez, South Carolina
3. Brice Ramsey vs. Faton Bauta vs. Jacob Park, Georgia
4. Kenny Hill vs. Kyle Allen vs. Kyler Murray, Texas A&M
5. Will Grier vs. Treon Harris, Florida
6. Anthony Jennings vs. Brandon Harris vs. potential transfer, LSU
7. All four Vanderbilt quarterbacks (again)
8. Ryan Buchanan vs. Kendrick Doss vs. Devante Kincade vs. Chad Kelly (I mean Swag Kelly), Ole Miss

These are all going to be very interesting battles and there are still some competitions that we don’t know about just yet.

Who knows, maybe a freshman or a transfer comes into a SEC program from out of nowhere. I can tell you this, the guys that have already been in the system have a huge advantage. College playbooks are like learning Chinese compared to most high school playbooks.

Obviously, that’s part of the job (other than 15 credit hour semesters). The quarterback has to learn the system and become comfortable with it before the coach even thinks about putting him out in live action. That’s why you see some coaches hesitate to name a starter, such as coach Kevin Sumlin this past year. He waited until the last possible second to announce that Kenny Hill would be the starter over Kyle Allen.

This offseason will be very interesting to a lot of programs. There have been a bunch of coaching changes this year, and that could impact who plays and gets the majority of the reps in spring practice.
