QB Jacob Eason, a long-standing Georgia commitment, is expected to make a final decision between Georgia and Florida next week.

Since the Bulldogs fired Mark Richt, there’s been a lot of buzz about Eason to the Gators. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound senior made an official visit to Gainesville.

But Florida already has flipped top 5 quarterback Feleipe Franks from LSU, and its rare that a program brings in such touted players at the position in the same class. Florida’s class also currently includes three-star signal-caller Kyle Trask.

According to the Palm Beach Post, Eason is scheduled for a sit-down meeting with coach Kirby Smart on Friday. Smart traveled to Washington on Monday to meet arguably the most important member of Georgia’s 2016 class.

“He’s just in a sit-and-wait status,” Lake Stevens High School coach Tom Tri said of Eason, according to the paper. “He wants to get a chance to meet coach Smart and get to know him a little bit and get to know who they’re going to bring in as an offensive coordinator and get a feel for that. He wants to make as educated a decision as he possibly can.

“I think he’s just looking at alternate plans in case things don’t work out for him there. I would say Florida is in second right now, if I had to predict.”

The report also indicated that although Eason was close with Richt, he hasn’t considered playing at the University of Miami.

Eason is expected to be an early enrollee. With the recruiting dead period fast approaching, it’s getting to be decision time for the heralded prep quarterback. Will he stay “committed to the G,” or will the Gators steal him away?
