Jalen Milroe, Jaxson Dart reportedly struggle on Day 1 of Senior Bowl practices
Jalen Milroe and Jaxson Dart, the top quarterbacks at this year’s Senior Bowl, both struggled during Day 1 of practice on Wednesday, according to reports.
Here’s an excerpt from Pro Football Focus’ Trevor Sikkema in his Day 1 breakdown:
Milroe’s lack of accuracy and ball placement was much the same as what we saw over the last two seasons (and his smaller hand measurements from this week give us more context as to why that might be something he could always struggle with). As for Dart, he had multiple fumbles during his first practices, mostly coming from under center, something he rarely did in college with just nine snaps under center out of 943 total snaps over the last two years.
Milroe’s lack of accuracy isn’t too surprising given the issues he had during his 2 seasons as the starter at Alabama. Still, that’s something he will need to improve on in order to have a successful NFL career. Milroe completed just over 39% of his pass attempts that traveled 20+ yards in 2024, according to PFF.
As for Dart, his issues seem to stem from a lack of experience in taking snaps from under center at Ole Miss. As PFF noted, Dart spent the vast majority if his career in shotgun, so taking snaps from under center will be an adjustment for him at the next level.
Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders, who are not at the Senior Bowl this week, are widely believed to be the top quarterbacks on the board for the 2025 NFL Draft. Given the way this week has started for Milroe and Dart, that might not be changing anytime soon.
The 2025 Senior Bowl is set for Wednesday afternoon.
