Joel Klatt thinks there is a clear hierarchy in the SEC.

The college football analyst sees the top tier of the SEC as containing 2 teams: Texas and Georgia.

In the 2nd tier, Klatt has Tennessee and Alabama. The 3rd tier has Ole Miss and Missouri, while the final tier has Oklahoma and LSU. South Carolina and Texas A&M both have a conference win, but Klatt sees those programs at least 1 tier below these top 8 teams.

For the most part, Klatt’s rankings align with the latest AP Poll.

Texas leapfrogged Georgia to take the No. 1 spot in the nation, while Tennessee moved up to No. 6. Klatt is higher on Tennessee than the AP Poll, as Klatt has Tennessee in a higher tier even though Ole Miss is one spot higher in the poll.

It will be interesting to see how different these tiers look after the next 2 weeks. Tennessee travels to Norman to take on Oklahoma this weekend, and Georgia and Alabama will play next weekend in Tuscaloosa.

It may be a while before Texas gets knocked off the top spot if it ever happens. The Longhorns play lowly UL Monroe in Week 4 before playing Mississippi State in Week 5. The next real test for the top-ranked Longhorns should be in the Red River Rivalry game in Week 7.

Be sure to check back next week to see if the SEC power structure has changed at all.
