As the way-too-early polls come out for the 2020 season, there is a bit of a theme developing. But FOX Sports analyst Joel Klatt has taken a contrarian view, at least in terms of one prominent SEC team.

He has four SEC teams, which most of these kinds of rankings do, however, he’s missing Georgia from his top 10. The Bulldogs, coming off a Sugar Bowl win over Baylor, have re-tooled their offensive coaching staff and will have several new playmakers, including at least three spots on the offensive line, and a new quarterback. However, Georgia returns many of its key players on defense, a unit that was widely ranked by various statistical measures as being in the top five.

The final Associated Press poll, for context, had Georgia No. 4.

As for the other SEC teams Klatt actually ranked in the top 10, Klatt believes Texas A&M will have a strong team, and get the benefit of a schedule that’s not as strong as 2019 when it played Clemson and Georgia. LSU will take a step back, but it’s a program that’s recruited well, according to Klatt, and clearly has the culture to be a top-tier team.

Klatt said he loves Florida, and, “I think Florida is going to be my favorite in the East. This is a team that has a good quality quarterback that’s getting better. When you look at what they were this year, they were one of the teams that played LSU as good as anybody, along with Auburn. They’re good defensively, (Kyle) Trask, their quarterback is back. I think Florida could take a little bit of a jump next year.”

Klatt joined a growing list of analysts and media members who are trending toward favoring Florida to knock off Georgia and win the East.

Klatt said Alabama “ain’t going anywhere, did you see what they did in recruiting. Mac Jones, I think, you saw what he did in the bowl game, he’s going to be just fine.”
