Joey Chestnut was impressive again, and this time, the eating champ mowed down 63 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes. He won the competition by 15.5 hot dogs.
Chestnut on Friday shocked the competitive-eating community when he hobbled into Hudson Yards in New York City on crutches during the official weigh-in before the 2022 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest — a 4th of July tradition on Coney Island, the New York Post reported. Chestnut earlier revealed that the now 15-time Nathan’s Famous champion wore a black cast below his right knee and walked with crutches under each arm because of a ruptured tendon.
Because of his reputation, Chesnut had a DraftKings over/under of 74.5 entering the contest.
The Independence Day competition returned on Monday to its traditional location at the corner of Surf and Stillwell Avenues for the first time since 2019.
The holiday tradition, the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest, was first held in 1916.
Last year, Chestnut downed 76 franks and buns in 10 minutes, which is one more than he did in setting the men’s record in 2020.
