As the college football season continues to crystalize, it appears Alabama and Georgia are far and away above the field, however, the distance between them and other teams is very much up for debate.

ESPN’s Joey Galloway and David Pollack took up the issue on a recent episode of College Football Live.

“That gap seems very large to me,” Galloway said on College Football Live. “I think if you really want to argue it, I think the bigger argument is who should be ranked No. 1 between Georgia and Alabama. But the gap between those 2 teams and what everyone else has done so far appears to be very big.”

Galloway cautioned that it’s still early in the season, and Ohio State is playing better, so there is time to close the gap. Still, it’d be hard to see Alabama or Georgia not making the College Football Playoff, Galloway said.

David Pollack said last week was an example of Alabama and Georgia reminding Ole Miss and Arkansas that there are levels to the top of the heap, and “Y’all aren’t ready for this.”

“But this Alabama team isn’t near what it was a year ago,” Pollack said. “Georgia’s not a complete team yet offensively, there’s still deficiencies. Wendy, it was a couple weeks ago in the Swamp that Alabama barely survived. That was a pretty good football game a couple weeks ago.”

Pollack added that he agrees that Alabama and Georgia are the best 2 teams, and there is separation. But he cautioned that both would run the table and be undefeated by the time they meet.

Galloway countered and said that the Florida game helped Alabama prepare better defensively for the Ole Miss game.

“I don’t think good teams need to always blow people out,” Galloway said. “I think good teams need to have a close game to go back to the drawing board, say, ‘Hey, maybe we weren’t as good as we thought we were.'”
