Juice Wells made an immediate impact at South Carolina in 2022 after joining the Gamecocks from then-FCS James Madison. But after a left foot injury suffered in September held him out for all but 3 games in 2023, he decided to enter the transfer portal.

It looks like Wells could be looking to remain in the SEC. According to On3’s Pete Nakos, 2 “schools to watch” among those vying for his services are Tennessee and Texas.

The Longhorns, who are preparing for their 1st College Football Playoff appearance in school history, are an intriguing option with the program SEC-bound in 2024 after decades in the Big 12. Meanwhile, the Volunteers, who had a terrific season in 2022 but lost a step in 2023, could add Wells to a WR room that will include Squirrel White in 2024 but not Ramel Keyton, who will have exhausted his eligibility.

Both programs will hope that Wells can build on the form he enjoyed with the Gamecocks in 2022. That year, he made 68 catches for 928 yards and 6 touchdowns. In 2023, he was held to just 3 catches for 37 yards and a TD due to injury.

In 2 seasons with James Madison, he totaled 1,853 yards and 21 touchdowns, with 1,250 of those yards and 15 of those scores coming as a sophomore in 2021.
