Kirk Herbstreit and Jen Lada are jumping to Pat McAfee’s defense after the College GameDay analyst has faced some criticism.

In his second year as a full-time analyst for ESPN’s College GameDay, McAfee’s presences has been somewhat divisive. While many like the energy and enthusiasm that McAfee brings, others believe the show was better before he joined the crew.

McAfee addressed his future with the show on Sunday after a poll from The Athletic revealed that 48.9% of readers do not like McAfee on the show. He stated that he has not re-signed his contract yet, but he is waiting to see what the future holds.

On Monday, ESPN’s Jan Lada backed McAfee up on social media, sharing what makes his presence so great.

“McAfee doesn’t need my endorsement AT ALL but he has made CGD better & invigorated our team,” Lada said in the post. “His fearlessness dares us to question formula & take chances. TO GROW. A supremely smart/talented entertainer & positive teammate who respects the sport, the show & its hardworking people.”

Herbstreit, who has been with GameDay for 26 years, seconded Lada’s comments.

So while McAfee’s future with GameDay is unclear, he has the support of those who work with him on the show.
