Kirk Herbstreit has named his list of top-performing coaches for Week 2.
Unsurprisingly, it was Northern Illinois coach Thomas Hammock who earned the No. 1 spot from Herbstreit this week. Hammock led his Huskies team to a historic upset over then-No. 5 Notre Dame in Week 2.
After Hammock, Herbstreit included 3 SEC coaches on his list of 7: Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian at No. 2, Tennessee defensive coordinator Tim Banks at No. 3 and South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer at No. 5.
Here’s Herbstreit’s full list:

Sarkisian put together an excellent game plan for Texas’ road game against Michigan. The Longhorns thrashed the Wolverines on the road, earning a win that should go a long way toward improving their College Football Playoff résumé.
Banks helped lead Tennessee to a dominant 51-10 win over NC State in Charlotte. It was a near-perfect performance on defense for the Vols, who limited NC State to just 2.9 yards per play on the night.
Beamer and South Carolina earned the first SEC win of the 2024 season on Saturday in Lexington. The Gamecocks out-classed Kentucky, particularly with their stout defense, en route to a 31-6 upset win over the Wildcats.
Louisiana Monroe’s Bryan Vincent, Virginia’s Tony Elliott and Cal’s Justin Wilcox were the other coaches to make Herbstreit’s list this week.
