Lee Corso starts season as only College GameDay analyst with perfect Week 1 Saturday picks
Lee Corso still has a knack for making picks.
Much has been made in recent years about whether Corso, who turned 89 on Aug. 7, is still up to being on College GameDay. Corso has seen his GameDay role reduced over the years, but he’s always an important part of the picks segment.
A Redditor noted that Corso was the only GameDay picker to go undefeated on Saturday. It was Corso’s first week of picks, as he did not make the trip to Ireland for Week 0. Week 1, of course, isn’t over yet. Corso picked No. 13 LSU to beat No. 23 USC on Sunday night in Las Vegas.

One of Corso’s lone picks particularly stands out.
Virginia Tech entered the season with the hype of being a potential dark horse in the ACC. With the 12-team College Football Playoff’s new focus on conference champions, there was talk of the Hokies potentially playing their way into the CFP.
Vanderbilt, on the other hand, entered Saturday’s game on a 10-game losing streak. The Commodores defeated Hawaii and Alabama A&M to open the 2023 campaign but did not win again that season. The Dores not only dropped all 8 SEC games last season but also fell to Wake Forest and UNLV.
Vandy was a 13.5-point home underdog against Virginia Tech, according to ESPN Bet. Some would have considered it bold to take the Dores to cover the spread. The GameDay picks segment is for straight-up predictions, with analysts sometimes adding in their own thoughts on how the result will compare to the Vegas spread. For Corso to pick Vanderbilt to win straight-up and hit on that pick is truly impressive.
Corso was also the lone pick for Notre Dame to defeat Texas A&M. While Notre Dame is the higher-ranked team, Texas A&M was the betting favorite in the game and had the advantage of playing in front of the home Kyle Field crowd. Not only did Corso make the correct pick, but we also got to see him rock the leprechaun costume.

We’ll see how Corso fares with his Sunday LSU pick and in Week 2 when the show heads to Ann Arbor for the Michigan-Texas showdown.
He nailed that vandy pick. Get em Sunshine.
