Lee Corso tears up ahead of 400th headgear pick, thanks ESPN for sticking with him after stroke
Lee Corso has been a mainstay on ESPN’s College GameDay for decades now, and he’s hitting a milestone on Saturday morning at Colorado.
It’ll be Corso’s 400th headgear pick, so there have been tributes and reflections on the GameDay headgear tradition throughout the show on Saturday.
A few years ago, when Corso had a stroke, ESPN could have moved him off the GameDay desk. But he’s still on the show, and he thanked the network for staying with him and allowing him to continue doing what he loves:
“I wanna thank ESPN for sticking with me when I had my stroke.”

What a beautiful feature ESPN did this morning on Lee Corso as he makes his 400 headgear pick. Say what you want about ESPN, this was incredibly well done. A wonderful tribute. pic.twitter.com/hmDn5Ux87c

He went on to thank his colleagues for putting up with his “schtick”:

It was an emotional moment. Corso is clearly beloved by his fellow analysts on the show.
In true Corso fashion, when told by his cohosts that they couldn’t wait for Corso’s 500th headgear pick, he quipped: “I’ll never make it.”
Who will he pick for his 400th headgear selection? All signs are pointing toward him donning a Buffalo head on Saturday morning in Boulder!
