It was only about a month ago that everyone had Leonard Fournette winning the Heisman.

A lot has changed since then.

Two days ago, it was announced that Fournette wouldn’t even be among the three finalists going to New York for the Heisman ceremony.

On Wednesday, Fournette expressed his feelings about being left out to SEC Country.

“Everybody was angry and upset about the situation,” Fournette said while addressing the media at the College Football Hall of Fame. “Like I told my coaches and my parents and the players on my team, everything happens for a reason. It is what it is, man.”

When asked why he felt he wasn’t chosen, he pointed to the obvious, which was LSU’s undoing near the end of the season, when it went on a three-game losing streak, the first in Les Miles’ tenure with the Tigers.

“I don’t know. Probably the games we lost,” Fournette said. “It doesn’t matter. I still feel like, personally, I had one heck of a season. I had fun playing with those guys.”

After the three finalists — Alabama RB Derrick Henry, Stanford RB Christian McCaffrey and Clemson QB Deshaun Watson — were announced, Fournette posted this on Twitter, and his coach showed his support.

Still, the sophomore had an incredible season that saw him set the school rushing record with 1,741 yards. He could still join Henry in surpassing Herschel Walker’s SEC single-season rushing record of 1,891 in 1981.
