LOOK: Following backlash, Clemson player dresses up as Trevor Lawrence for ACC Media Days
Trevor Lawrence was one of the most sought-after players for ACC Media Days, but Clemson didn’t oblige.
Instead, they sent a “stunt double” in offensive guard John Simpson, who donned a blonde wig, and beamed with pride as he took the new role in stride.
“I’m Trevor 2.0. I’m better,” Simpson joked with reporters about the Tigers’ quarterback. “Got a better arm, bigger arm. It might not be as accurate, but it’s going to go 75, 80 yards.”
Simpson has a bit different frame than Lawrence, as he’s listed at 6-foot-4, 330 pounds, versus Lawrence at 6-6, 215.
With this performance, Simpson has an all-ACC personality, but he’s pretty good on the field, as well. He was listed as a second-team offensive guard last season, and has drawn some preseason first-team nods from the likes of Phil Steele.
It’s difficult to top Lawrence, though. The Heisman Trophy candidate had a historic season in 2018 as he led Clemson to win the national championship as he collected 3,280 yards and 30 touchdowns with just four interceptions.
