Basketball prospects committed to SEC programs entered the month of April were left wondering if they would be able to sign with their program of choice. Now they have their answer.

The Division I signing period for basketball begins on April 15 but with sports activities, including recruiting, coming to a halt around the nation, the NCAA had yet to officially made a decision on the signing period until Thursday.

That decision has been made, however, as the NCAA will only the April 15 signing period to go on as scheduled. The signing period runs through May 20. Just like football, college basketball has an early signing period, which ran from Nov. 13, 2019, through Nov. 20, 2019.

Any SEC commits that have yet to sign with their programs will now be able to do so starting on April 15.

Here is the official NCAA ruling that was issued following the coronavirus outbreak:

On Friday, March 13, 2020, the NCAA adopted emergency legislation to establish a temporary recruiting dead period for all NCAA Division I and II sports, effective immediately, and in effect until at least April 15, 2020.

Accordingly, the Collegiate Commissioner’s Association (CCA) has suspended all National Letter of Intent (NLI) signings until at least April 15, 2020. This suspension will be re-evaluated on or before April 15, 2020. The NLI suspension applies to both Division I and II NLI member institutions. As such, NLIs cannot be issued to Division I and II prospective student-athletes effective March 16, 2020 through at least April 15, 2020. NLIs issued and signed by prospective student-athletes before March 16, 2020 should still be managed through the normal validation process with the conference office.
