Wrestler Gable Steveson enjoyed a successful trip to Japan for the 2020 Summer Olympics in August. The University of Minnesota standout and national champion took home gold for the United States in the 125kg weight class in freestyle wrestling, breaking a drought for American heavyweights that had lasted since the 1992 Games in Barcelona.

Could he be looking to make a switch to football, though?

During an interview on “Pardon My Take”, Steveson revealed that he “considered” suiting up for the Golden Gophers on the gridiron, saying that he had discussed the potential with P.J. Fleck before traveling to Tokyo.

“I talked to Coach Fleck…and he wanted me to come out before I went to the Olympic Games to come play for a little bit, but I told him after the Olympic Games, I’d give him an official decision,” Steveson said. “So I’m considering playing football. I would hope one day that I could get a tryout with the NFL.”

In fact, Steveson revealed that a few NFL teams have put him into contact with agents in case he would want to pursue a professional career.

“It would be cool to go out there and play football, and be in the NFL for a little bit,” he said. “If it comes, it comes. If it doesn’t, I’ve got another route I can hopefully take, and hopefully everything will play out alright.”
