Paul Finebaum is not known for holding back on his takes. The veteran college football analyst fired off another take on Sunday morning, this time taking aim at College GameDay’s Week 3 decision.
Originally, ESPN’s GameDay crew was slated to head to Lexington for a matchup between Kentucky and No. 1 Georgia, according to Finebaum. However, Kentucky got obliterated by South Carolina in Week 2, dampening the excitement for the Georgia matchup.
Instead, GameDay announced the show will head to Columbia instead for a matchup between South Carolina and LSU. Finebaum called that decision “bizarre.”
“I had callers this week from Columbia say, ‘Hey, when do you think we’re gonna get rid of Shane Beamer?’ They were as down on him as they could be, now they have College GameDay? Which — I don’t know where that bus was going,” Finebaum said Sunday. “GameDay is great, but the idea that GameDay would go to LSU at South Carolina? I mean that is one of the more bizarre GameDay choices in its history.”
The 2-0 Gamecocks will now host GameDay for the first time since 2014.
While the Gamecocks have a spotless record so far, a closer-than-expected Week 1 game against Old Dominion worried some fans. However, the Gamecocks will now have the national spotlight as they seek to add another impressive SEC win to their resume.
While Finebaum thinks GameDay made a strange decision, Kentucky fans have to be even more upset. The Wildcats were looking to host GameDay for the first time since 2007. Instead, the very team that just blew them out will now hold those honors instead.
