Paul Finebaum ripped into the ACC Sunday afternoon.

While speaking with Matt Barrie Finebaum didn’t hold back on the conference, saying the recent additions of Cal, Stanford and SMU has essentially given Florida State, North Carolina and Clemson a “ticket out” of the ACC.

Here’s his full quote on the subject:

“I just want to congratulate The ACC for essentially voting out Clemson, North Carolina and Florida State because after what happened Friday with the admission of SMU, Cal and Stanford they have essentially given those three a ticket out. That League which was already teetering towards irrelevancy has just taken on 3 schools that devalue an already discounted product even more and that league is just heading towards the iceberg.”

You can find his entire conversation with Matt Barrie below:

Finebaum makes a great point. The additions of Stanford, Cal and SMU does not hold a candle to the B1G or SEC’s recent additions. Heck, it doesn’t even beat out the Big 12’s additions of BYU, Houston, Cincinnati and UCF.

Saturating the conference with more average-to-below-average programs only pushes the big 3 Finebaum mentioned out the door.

The ACC made the move for the markets they bring, not necessarily the betterment of the lives of student athletes or even for a uptick in quality of ACC football games. SMU brings the Dallas market while Stanford and Cal bring the Bay Area into the conference.

We’ll see how the move works out for the ACC soon.
