Paul Finebaum sarcastically trolls CFP committee during SMU-Penn State

Paul Finebaum is not a big fan of the first couple of games of the 12-team College Football Playoff, and he is not alone.

On Friday night, fans were treated to a blowout with Notre Dame building a 27-3 lead before hanging on for a 27-17 win vs. Indiana. The Fighting Irish never trailed and were in complete control for all 60 minutes.

To kick off Saturday’s action, SMU faced Penn State in Happy Valley, and that game is also a blowout of massive proportions. James Franklin’s Nittany Lions jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead after recording 3 interceptions off SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings, including a pair of pick-6s.

Finebaum, who is like many other SEC advocates, was not kind in his assessment of Saturday’s early game. He trolled the selection committee by sarcastically saying the group provided “some blockbusters” in the first round while also telling the committee to “take a bow.”

While Kirk Herbstreit did not express negativity toward the ongoing performance in the game, he even reacted to the game and admitted it was not surprising to see Penn State rolling early and often. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin was less kind, taking aim at the selection committee for a 2nd time in less than 24 hours after another CFP blowout.

Blowouts were not uncommon during the 4-team era of the Playoff, but that fact alone is not going to deter fans from sounding off on the latest string of mismatches, especially after a controversial final bracket was revealed on Selection Sunday.
