It was labeled as a “complicated” Iron Bowl as WJOX co-hosts described to SEC Network host Paul Finebaum Saturday’s game at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

There’s Mac Jones first road start in a contested environment against a good defense, (Arkansas doesn’t fit that description) and Bo Nix facing a defense that’s not the worst he’s seen, but is also not the strongest.

“This game reminds me of 2002 or 2003, Dennis Franchione’s last year, nobody thought Auburn would win and they did,” Finebaum said on his regular weekly segment on “The Roundtable” on Birmingham-based JOX 94.5 radio station. “The only difference is Alabama is the favorite that’s probably the quirkiest parts of this game. … What am I missing with Alabama and Auburn, it seems like the game should be close to pick ’em, but Vegas loves Alabama and maybe we are just too close to all of this that perceptually maybe Alabama still is a very good team. I don’t think the line would have been gargantuan with Tua in there, especially with Alabama coming off the LSU game and even including all the injuries they have. ”

Finebaum was asked if Alabama wins 27-10, where is Gus Malzahn next week?

“Some of it depends on where he wants to be,” Finebaum said. “As we have talked week after week, I think Gus is a pretty shrewd dude, and he knows there’s not a preponderance of evidence in Auburn that indicates people want him to stay. Fans might vote on a fairly close call to keep him, but the power brokers have not changed. They’ve wanted him out for years and it seems like they’re moving closer to pushing him out and by pushing him out, I mean letting him know he’s not wanted.”

The game is set for 2:30 p.m. local time on CBS. Alabama is listed as a 3.5-point favorite.
