A man carrying a machete inside the University of Colorado’s Champions Center was shot and killed by police Wednesday morning after he refused to drop the weapon, according to a report from the Boulder Daily Camera.

The Champions Center, home to the university’s sports medicine department, is near Folsom Field. Boulder and campus police arrived at the facility to confront the suspect, who “did brandish a sharp weapon and was menacing with it” following an altercation in the parking lot, a police spokesperson said during a news conference.

The staff and student athletes inside the Champions Center were all safe, though the area has been closed while police conduct further searches of the building.
