We’ve already seen the release of the Coaches Poll, so now we await the AP’s version of the Top 25.

The notion exists that coaches are too busy worrying about their owns teams to spend the necessary amount of time on their rankings every week. Media members, conversely, have no such excuse.

However, just like coaches are more likely to vote for in-conference teams — including their own, of course — since they know more about them, AP voters spend an inordinate amount of time covering one program. SEC beat reporters don’t watch enough Pac-12 football, as an example, and vice versa.

Polls are certainly biased and maybe even outdated, but they’re still a part of what separates the college game from the professional product. Flaws and all, fans can’t wait for them to be released.

SEC teams also receiving votes: Texas A&M, Arkansas

Already voted No. 1 by coaches, defending-champion Alabama should sweep the top spot in both polls.

The SEC West will probably come down to the Crimson Tide’s visit to LSU in early November, with the survivor marching to Atlanta. In the East, Tennessee is the clear favorite and a playoff contender.

Moving out of the Top 10, Ole Miss returns the league’s most prolific quarterback in Chad Kelly, as he tries to crash the Tide-and-Tigers party out West. Georgia has plenty of talent and a new boss on the sideline in Kirby Smart. Florida, champs of the East in 2015, gets to play the disrespect card.

On the outside of the poll looking in, Texas A&M is a prospective spoiler in the West if refugee QB Trevor Knight can score enough points. Arkansas has improved in each of Bret Bielema’s three years but is starting over at quarterback.

However, these are only projections. Mississippi State went from unranked to No. 1 quickly in 2014. Clemson was preseason No. 12 last season and reached the championship game.
