Prop bets in the SEC Week 5: How many GameDay boos for Kenny Chesney?

Don’t feel comfortable picking games using the over/under or a point spread? Let’s try a different avenue.

Proposition bets are often statistically-driven, but could be something as simple as selecting the winner of the coin toss. We’ll try and be more creative.

SEC Week 5 prop bets:

TOTAL NUMBER OF BOOS KENNY CHESNEY WARRANTS ON COLLEGE GAMEDAY

Options — 0-1; 2-3; 4 or more

Projection: This week’s news of country music sensation Kenny Chesney’s trip to Columbia, S.C. for the popular pre-game show brought instantaneous jeers from Gamecock Nation since Chesney’s a well-known Tennessee Vols fan. A better choice here would’ve been South Carolina student Kyle Carpenter, a 24-year-old retired Marine and recent Medal of Honor recipient. I’d expect boos when he’s introduced along with another wave when he picks the Vols the upset Georgia.

HOW MANY RUSHING YARDS WILL ARKANSAS MANAGE VS. TEXAS A&M?

Options — 0-100; 101-200; 201-300; 301-plus

  • Projection: Ready for a shootout at AT&T Stadium? Differing offensive philosophies meet Saturday afternoon in what’s expected to be a fun-to-watch showdown in the SEC West. The Razorbacks will try and control the game with ground dominance while the Aggies spin it through the air with Kenny Hill. This may sound strange, but Texas A&M could give up 300 yards rushing and still win. It’s going to happen.

HOW MANY TURNOVERS WILL OLE MISS FORCE AGAINST MEMPHIS?

Options — 0; 1; 2; 3; 4 or more

  • Projection: The Rebels have picked off a conference-leading eight passes in three games with the SEC’s hardest-hitting secondary, but the Tigers pose an upset threat. Placing plus-6 in turnover margin with an offense that’s clicking early this season, Memphis leads the American Athletic Conference in points per game and rushing yards. Playing from behind should plague the Tigers in this one, leading to a couple picks.

IS THIS THE WEEK LEONARD FOURNETTE HITS TRIPLE DIGITS?

Options — Yes; No

  • Projection: Too much hype or too little sample size? We’ll guess the latter. Leonard Fournette’s start to his freshman season hasn’t been momentous, but he’s still averaging 5.3 yards per carry which leads all LSU running backs with at least 10 carries. New Mexico State gave up 432 yards on the ground last time out against New Mexico, so betting on Fournette to break 100 seems safe.

TOTAL NUMBER OF SQUIB KICKS AWAY FROM MIZZOU’S MARCUS MURPHY

Options — None; 1-2; 3 or more

  • Projection: After last week’s special teams disaster in Nashville, South Carolina may use Spurrier’s plan to ‘kick a few grounders’ during Saturday’s game against Mizzou. Murphy is one of college football’s most lethal in the kicking game and will make the Gamecocks pay if he’s given space. We’re going to go with three or more considering South Carolina will score some points.
