Now that Florida has officially parted ways with coach Jim McElwain, the search is on for the next Gators’ head coach.

One name that keeps being brought up as a top candidate is Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen, who was part of Urban Meyer’s title-winning staff in Gainesville last decade.

However, according to a report by Will Sammon of The Clarion-Ledger, Mullen may not be willing to return to Gainesville, as he enjoys what he has going in Starkville right now:

Mullen enjoys his life in Starkville and he is not eyeing other opportunities, sources close to the MSU program said.

Obviously, those close to the Mississippi State program have a vested interest in keeping Mullen around, so take their comments with a grain of salt.

However, there is a case to be made for staying in Starkville, as Mullen has a cushy gig there. Expectations aren’t what they’d be at Florida, and he’s proven he can field very competitive Bulldog teams.

What happens next remains to be seen, but it’s safe to say Mullen will at least be fielding some calls from schools in search of a new coach in the coming months.
