In the hours after Tennessee State LB Christion Abercrombie suffered a scary injury against Vanderbilt, the prognosis did not look good.

Abercrombie had emergency surgery and was unresponsive for a while. Then, he remained in critical condition for a few days following that surgery.

Now, though, the news has turned more positive, and on Tuesday, the best update yet was shared. According to The Tennessean, Abercrombie will be released from the Vanderbilt University Medical Center on Wednesday, after which he’ll return to a facility in his home city of Atlanta:

Injured Tennessee State football player Christion Abercrombie will be discharged from Vanderbilt University Medical Center on Wednesday and transported to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, according to TSU officials.

TSU coach Rod Reed reportedly visited Abercrombie on Monday, saying that the linebacker was able to open his eyes, squeeze the coach’s hand and smile:

“It just shows the power of God,” Reed said. “This is, in my opinion, a miracle that he’s being discharged after such a traumatic experience. Thank you for all of those who sent up prayers. We’re looking forward to a speedy recovery.”

Abercrombie still has a long rehab process ahead of him, but it’s great to see so many positive updates being shared in recent days.
