Jim Harbaugh is only in his third season as the head coach at Michigan, but for anyone looking for that marriage to end anytime soon, you may not want to hold your breath.

According to former Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn, officials at Michigan may be looking to extend the coach a lifetime contract.

In his first two seasons as the Wolverines’ head coach, Harbaugh brought the program back-to-back 10-win seasons for the first time since 2002-03. Overall, he’s 28-9 (.757) since leaving the San Francisco 49ers prior to the 2015 season.

If Quinn’s report is true, the lifetime contract would be a first in college football, and we’re not even sure what that would look like.

The connection between Harbaugh and Michigan is strong, considering he played quarterback for the school from 1983 to 1986, but officials may want to hold off until this weekend before making a commitment of that caliber.

Michigan plays Ohio State on Saturday, and Harbaugh’s teams are 0-2 so far against the Buckeyes.

Regardless, why would any school want to give any coach a lifetime contract? Things change so fast in college football, and a lifetime contract just makes no sense.
