One of the big news stories to come out of Pac-12 Media Day last month was that the conference was exploring some 9 a.m. Pacific time kickoffs.
That would allow the Pac-12 to get in on the highly viewed noon Eastern time window of games, but it appears that won’t be happening after all.
Per a report from The Mercury News on Wednesday, the early start times won’t be happening in 2019, as the Pac-12 couldn’t get things sorted out logistically in time:
The conference has opted against scheduling games this season at 9 a.m. PT/10 a.m. MT as a means of gaining exposure on the new FOX broadcast window.
Andrew Walker, head of communications for the Pac-12, said several schools are interested in playing early, but the conference couldn’t find “good options” over the coming three months.
The conference is keeping its options open for early starts in the coming years, so Pac-12 brunch games could still be coming to your TVs starting in 2020.
