Report: Urban Meyer and NFL team 'trying to finalize a deal' this week
It seems former Florida and Ohio State coach Urban Meyer could be back on the sidelines in 2021.
A number of NFL teams have expressed interest in the 3-time national champion, but it seems only 1 team remains in the Meyer sweepstakes — the Jacksonville Jaguars.
On Thursday morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Jaguars are trying to hire Meyer by the end of this week:
At this time, it’s Jacksonville as the one and only for Urban Meyer. Jaguars’ owner Shad Khan’s process has led him to Meyer, and Meyer is highly interested, and the two sides are interested in trying to finalize a deal this week. https://t.co/gDpE46pyuG

Of course, with Meyer’s previous health concerns, it’s still possible he backs out at any time before a contract is officially signed, so we’ll have to see how this progresses.
For now, though, it seems Meyer could be on his way back to the state of Florida. And, to make matters even better, the Jaguars have the No. 1 overall pick, which they’d presumably use on Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence.
Urban “finalizing a deal”…Saban “finalizing a deal”…I guess the buzzwords of the day are “finalizing a deal”. What did SDS do, hire Trumps former press secretary as story title editor or what?
That terminology has been used for sports contracts as long as I can remember. I think you should finalize a deal with a therapist FWIW.
That term has been used forever, why thanks for that clarification Captain ObviouslyTruvol…don’t let the fact that Adam Spencer’s SDS title editor used it in back to back articles published by him…feels like another Neil Blackmon “surreal” moment…
I think you could use some clarification. Or a hobby.
So you’re saying this story is all “trumped” up?
Wow, what a stupid comment. Suddenly in your world even the word finalize has become PC acceptable.
“not” PC acceptable. Sorry to get your hopes up.
Here in Jax, the feeling is that it’s almost done and we’ll get a press conference announcement any moment now.
He’s unquestionably a good HC, but he may have to bring in an entirely new team to get it done. Of course Jag fans have every reason to be patient.
This will be interesting to watch; was it the player development piece that contributed to the “health issues” (not intended to be disparaging – that’s just as detailed as its ever gotten), or the stress of game-time decisions? The GOAT college football coach getting his 7th title in the town where his NFL failure played out was a stark illustration that college and NFL coaches are (in large part) different skill sets.
$12 million a year plus a boatload of benefits—Kahn will probably throw in a nice mansion on the ocean in Ponte Vedra plus a small yacht.
This will not end well….
I think a lot of NFL fans have tired of the recycle process for HC. Sometimes it works out, Kansas City, more often doesnt. Even though hiring a college HC hasnt been any better, in fact worse, its maybe time to at least try something.
