It’s all on the Rose Bowl.

Leaders of the College Football Playoff told the Rose Bowl that it has until Wednesday to decide whether or not the College Football Playoff can expand in time with the Rose Bowl for the start of the 2024 regular season.

According to Chris Low of ESPN, the College Football Playoff would prefer to have the Rose Bowl in its New Year’s Six rotation moving forward, but will move on if prompted.

“We want the Rose Bowl,” a CFP source said, via ESPN. “We have a good partnership with the six bowls we are affiliated with. We do. And we want to continue with that. I hope the Rose Bowl will be part of that, but there’s no guarantee in any of that. None.”

The Rose Bowl holding to specific terms, wanting assurances to rework its contract to run past 2025, is one of many things standing in the way of officially announces an early move to expanding the College Football Playoff. With this ultimatum placed, expect a decision soon.
