We bring you the best of sad fan shots from the weekend of college football. Be sure to tweet the best ones as they happen on Saturdays to @SDS.
THE CITADEL AT SOUTH CAROLINA
What’s incredible about sadness is that it grows in strength with time and with higher stakes. South Carolina entered its game against The Citadel with a record of 3-7 and without any chance of even making a bowl game.
However, losing to what many call a “cupcake” or “cream puff” or “Little Debbie” or whatever delicious dessert you can think of still has huge consequences. We only needed one sad fan to show you here because the agony shown here after the Gamecocks’ 23-22 loss to a “Sweet Tart” sums up the bitter taste in their fans’ mouths. Plus, the migraine headache.

MISSISSIPPI STATE at ARKANSAS
In some situations, sadness — when brought on suddenly — takes on the form of anger. This Mississippi State fan experienced it so suddenly that it nearly cost someone at ESPN their job, but luckily that person was smart enough to cut away from the fan before he unleashed an atomic F bomb that may have blown trees back and cracked statues.

Arkansas gave Mississippi State fans more reason to be sad later in the game when it took a 50-44 lead with about 5:30 left. This sad fan is so sad that he’s getting ready to crush his own neck. Who knows if he did, but hopefully he survived long enough to see his Bulldogs pull out the 51-50 win.

And the sadness shifted to Hogs fans. Sadness takes on different forms, and one of them is misery. Thanks to @Gautreaux01 for these.

I think this is sadness?

FLORIDA ATLANTIC at No. 8 FLORIDA
For the Gators, the stakes couldn’t be higher in the sense that a playoff berth was on the line in their 20-14 OT win over Florida Atlantic. Even more than that, all sorts of dignity. This is an award-winning shot as you get a 3-for-1 deal with emotions here. The guy in the shades is angry, another young lady can’t bare to watch and another fan is in prayer.

It’s interesting how sadness always leads to people lifting their arms somewhere around their heads. For instance, in the previous image, you had all three people doing that in some form. You’ve also seen that in other shots like the guy trying to crush his neck. This guy simply bends his arm back behind his head.

GEORGIA SOUTHERN at GEORGIA
Georgia also struggled with a “little brother” in-state foe in Georgia Southern before prevailing 23-17 in an OT game of its own. Before tasting victory, the fans in Athens weren’t happy campers. The Bulldogs faithful booed the coaching staff’s conservative play-calling before halftime and towards the end of regulation.

The game had everyone biting on some nails.

But in the end, Georgia Southern fans were left with the sadness. And quite possibly plans to overthrow the planet judging by the look on this young man’s face.
If you see this Georgia Southern fan following you tonight, call the cops. Dude has bad plans for someone … https://t.co/7GJNgAIgBh

TEXAS A&M at VANDERBILT
Vanderbilt had its fans waiting and waiting before having any reason to be happy. It never gave them a single one, eventually losing 25-0 to Texas A&M in Nashville.
