SDS Retail Brand Launch and Tailgate Party

By this point, you have no doubt heard about the Saturday Down South Store. We have been floored by your response to the products and your support of what we are doing as a brand. We are humbled and excited to announce for the first time that Saturday Down South gear is now available in brick and mortar stores—and we are kicking off with one of the best—Shades at The Wharf in Orange Beach, AL.

This weekend in nearby Gulf Shores is the Annual National Shrimp Festival home to nearly 250,000 visitors from across the South. Just across town from the festival at the Shades store, the SDS & Shades crews will be hosting an SDS Tailgate Party where our teams will be giving away free beer, hot dogs, and SDS decals & koozies.

For about a decade now the team at Shades has led the lifestyle apparel business for the Southern man and woman looking to show their love of the South. Orignally located at The Wharf in Gulf Shores Alabama, they have had a handle on cool for a while. After looking across the South, it became clear that Shades needed to be our first retail partner.

Shades started in 2004 by Joe and Mary Jernigan to meet the need of a surprisingly underserved sugnlasses market in South Alabama. Joe, a fisheries major, orignally from up north, came to see an opportunity in listening to what younger people (younger than him at least) liked and wanted to wear. Since then, Joe and his wife have grown the business to four new locations across the South, and are still “aggressively seeking new markets.” But, since the start, their business has been defined by a dedicated and friendly team that has had their thumb on what is cool.
