Could Power 5 conferences merge? ESPN's Jay Bilas suggests ACC should consider it
With Texas and Oklahoma on their way to the SEC, many are wondering what that means for the rest of the Power 5 conferences.
Will moves even be made by the other leagues?
There likely is an epic game of chicken going on behind the scenes as the ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12 and Big 12 all work to ensure their future in a world where Texas and Oklahoma are in the SEC.
The conference that makes a move first could continue the expansion dominoes all across the country.
Assuming Texas and Oklahoma join the SEC and Notre Dame doesn’t wish to join a league, there aren’t many attractive options out there for Power 5 leagues to absorb, especially for the ACC.
Instead of attempting to poach programs from other leagues or promote Group of 5 schools, Bilas suggests the ACC should try to merge with the SEC.
He made the suggestion during a recent appearance on ESPN:
If I were the ACC right now, I’d approach the SEC and consider a merger. pic.twitter.com/WKTq3CWsO9
