All-SEC Fantasy Football Team of Week 6
It is time to announce the All-SEC fantasy team of the week for Week 6. If you need a refresher on the rules or the scoring system, take a quick look at here.
Without further ado, here’s this week’s squad:
QB: Dak Prescott (Mississippi State): 268 passing yards, 2 passing touchdowns, 77 rushing yards, 3 rushing touchdowns, 11 receiving yards — 44 points. Prescott was phenomenal in Mississippi State’s thumping of Texas A&M last weekend, commanding one of the most potent offenses in the nation to 48 points on a national stage. The redshirt junior completed 77 percent of his passes without an interception, and ran for at least 75 yards for the fourth straight week, all while accounting for five total touchdowns in the victory.
RB: Mike Davis (South Carolina): 183 rushing yards, 3 rushing touchdowns — 36 points. Davis had far and away his best game of the season in a gut-wrenching loss to Kentucky, carrying the ball 23 times at a whopping eight yards per carry. His three touchdowns helped the Gamecocks build a 14-point lead in the second half that the Wildcats would eventually spoil, but South Carolina is hoping Davis can play this well in its final six games of a disappointing 2014 campaign.
RB: Jojo Kemp (Kentucky): 131 rushing yards, 3 rushing touchdowns — 31 points. Kemp put the Wildcats on his back in the second half, leading a thrilling second half comeback against South Carolina in a packed house at Commonwealth Stadium. Kemp fought through pain and lead the offense as a “Wildcat” quarterback, carrying the load in the fourth quarter to seize control of the game for UK. The Cats needed all three of his touchdowns to squeak out a seven-point win fans in the Bluegrass won’t soon forget.
WR: Josh Reynolds (Texas A&M): 66 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns — 18 points. Reynolds numbers were impressive in a loss to Mississippi State, but its more a testament to A&M’s aerial attack than it is to anything Reynolds did against the Bulldogs. The Aggies dropped somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 passes as a team against MSU, and Reynolds’ numbers are mostly a product of an offense that attempted 37 passes and played from behind for most of the game. His two touchdowns helped keep the score respectable by the final horn, but it was far from a dominant performance last weekend.
WR: Speedy Noil (Texas A&M): 50 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns — 17 points. Noil was one of A&M’s best players on offense in the loss to Mississippi State, although he only caught three passes for the game. Unlike many other Aggies receivers, Noil was not victimized by drops, and his first touchdown reception, a jump ball followed by a toe tap and extension across the goal line, was one of the plays of the day. Like Reynolds, his stats were somewhat padded by a pass-happy offense playing from behind, but Noil certainly earned his spot on this week’s team.
TE: Jeb Blazevich (Georgia): 86 receiving yards — 8 points. Blazevich had a huge game in the Bulldogs’ win over Vanderbilt, catching just three passes to lead the team with 86 yards. He never found the end zone, but still managed to pad his stats against a weak Commodores defense, as the Georgia offense moved the ball at will in a 44-17 rout. Normally it requires a touchdown for a tight end to earn this spot, but Blazevich was solid enough without one to post the best statistical performance of the week.
D/ST: Florida: 9 points allowed, 233 yards allowed, three turnovers forced, six sacks recorded — 17 points. It’s tough to say whether last week’s Florida-Tennessee game was a defensive struggle or just a battle of two putrid offenses. Nevertheless, Florida’s defense posted the best fantasy score of the week, holding the Vols to just 9 points while forcing three turnovers and recording six sacks. The UT offense appeared hopeless for most of the game, and had the Florida defense not put forth the dominant performance it did last week, the Gators might have lost that game.
K: Daniel Carlson (Auburn): 2 of 2 field goals (46 yards, 42 yards), 5 of 5 extra points — 13 points. Carlson was on-point in Auburn’s rout of LSU, drilling both his field goal attempts (both coming from more than 40 yards out) and all five of his PATs in the 34-point win. The Tigers hope Carlson remains that accurate the rest of the season as they encounter a difficult stretch in their schedule beginning this week against Mississippi State.
Week 6 total points: 184
For context’s sake, the Week 2 team amassed 185 point, the Week 3 squad racked up 207 points, the Week 4 team scored 194 points and the Week 5 team posted 181 points (there was no team in Week 1).
