SEC announces makeup dates for postponed basketball games
The Southeastern Conference has found a window to fit in a number of games that had to be postponed this season due to various reasons.
These games will represent the final weekend of league action before the start of the 2021 SEC Tournament in Nashville. Prior to the start of the season, the SEC left this weekend window open to fit in games that may have been postponed.
According to the SEC, five of these games are rescheduled matchups that were postponed, while two others are new games created to balance home and away schedules.
Here is a look at the games announced by the SEC on Thursday.
Saturday, March 6
Alabama at Georgia | CBS | 2:00 pm ET
LSU at Missouri – originally scheduled for January 9
Mississippi State at Auburn – originally scheduled for February 16
Texas A&M at Arkansas – originally scheduled for February 6
South Carolina at Kentucky – originally scheduled for December 29
Vanderbilt at Ole Miss
Sunday, March 7
Florida at Tennessee – originally scheduled for February 10
That Florida-Tennessee game could end up being super important. That might be determining who ends up with the 4th spot and the double bye in the conference tournament.
The SEC would have been better off scheduling five games on this date as first round conference tournament games hosted by the higher seed and wait until the last games had been played. The number one team could play Auburn, while the #2 and #3 teams played to maybe decide the #2 seed in the tournament.
Then, the #4 could play #13, 5-12, 6-11, 7-10, and 8-9 with the higher seeded team hosting, so that there would only need to be 8 teams going to Nashville and just three rounds.
