Here’s what we learned about every SEC East team following Week 11 action.

FLORIDA GATORS

Week 11 result: Defeated Vanderbilt 34-10
What we learned: The Gators taught us last week’s win over Georgia was no fluke, and that this team is still capable of contending for the SEC East crown despite early season struggles and a seemingly lame duck coach. Vanderbilt is far from the toughest opponent on Florida’s SEC schedule, but the Commodores have been frisky since Johnny McCrary took over under center and have caused opponents some trouble in recent weeks, including East leader Missouri. Florida needed to play its best football to win on the road in Nashville, and it did so to prove it hasn’t given up on this season. The program’s future remains uncertain beyond this season, but the Gators won’t be packing it in early in 2014.

GEORGIA BULLDOGS

Week 11 result: Defeated Kentucky 63-31
What we learned: The Bulldogs taught us that although they no longer control the East, they’re still the most talented team in the division. Georgia steamrolled Kentucky on its Senior Day in Lexington, a task easier said than done considering how well UK has played at home this season. The Bulldogs scored nine touchdowns and out-gained UK by more than 200 yards, spoiling the Cats’ final home game of the season. Nick Chubb rushed for more than 100 yards for a fourth straight game, and Hutson Mason threw four touchdown passes in his best game of the season. Georgia will need some help to win the East title at the end of the year, but it certainly has the talent to win its final three games of the season, including next week’s game against Auburn.

KENTUCKY WILDCATS

Week 11 result: Lost to Georgia 63-31
What we learned: Kentucky has now lost four straight SEC games to fall from 5-1 to 5-5 on the season, and Saturday’s loss to Georgia taught us this team is still too young and too raw to compete on the highest level in the SEC. The Wildcats have more talented players than they’ve had in some time, but those players don’t understand what it takes to win in the SEC or to end a losing streak like the one Kentucky is currently experiencing. The Cats are trending positively, but the recent skid, and especially Saturday’s loss to the Dawgs, proved they’re nowhere near ready to contend in the SEC East.

MISSOURI TIGERS

Week 11 results: Bye
What we learned: Missouri was one of three SEC East teams on a bye in Week 11, so there wasn’t much to be learned about the current East leader. We’ll learn more about Mizzou as it aims to lock down its second straight division title in the final three weeks of the season. The Tigers will face Texas A&M, Tennessee and Arkansas to close the regular season, and those three games should prove challenging for Mizzou. The SEC East has just one win against the West all season, and Mizzou has two games remaining against the West. Likewise, Tennessee has looked like a completely different team with Josh Dobbs at quarterback, and it, too, will make winning the East even more challenging for an inconsistent Missouri team.

SOUTH CAROLINA GAMECOCKS

Week 11 results: Bye
What we learned: South Carolina was on a bye last week, so there wasn’t much to learn about the Gamecocks in Week 11. The offense is still far ahead of the defense, and the team still sits below-500 at 4-5 on the season. South Carolina must win two of its final three games just to earn bowl eligibility, so we will learn what this team is truly made of in the final stretch of the year. The Gamecocks close the season with games against Florida, South Alabama and arch-rival Clemson, and if the Clemson game ends up deciding South Carolina’s postseason fate it could reveal this team’s true character under Steve Spurrier’s leadership.

TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS

Week 11 results: Bye
What we learned: Tennessee was the third SEC East team on a bye in Week 11, and like the other two there wasn’t much to learn about the Vols during their week off. One thing we learned is that Justin Worley will miss the rest of the season following surgery to repair a torn labrum, confirming the offense is now in the hands of sophomore Josh Dobbs, who has been sensational since taking over under center. Tennessee looks like a different team with Dobbs at quarterback, and we’ll learn how high this team’s ceiling really is in the final three weeks of the season with Dobbs in the lineup. If he plays anything like how he played against South Carolina two weeks ago, the future will be bright for Tennessee.

VANDERBILT COMMODORES

Week 11 results: Lost to Florida 34-10
What we learned: Vanderbilt taught us that although it is an improved team with Johnny McCrary under center, it’s still not ready to compete in the SEC East. Vandy is the only East team without an SEC win this season, but following a 42-point performance in a win over Old Dominion in Week 10 some thought the team might have turned a corner. That might be true, but with as many freshman as Vandy plays on both sides of the ball (including McCrary) it’s going to take longer than one week to elevate the Dores to the caliber of the rest of the conference. Saturday’s loss to Florida showed us this team has grown and improved since a Week 1 loss to Temple, but it also taught us this team is still far from winning an SEC game.
