Last weekend was an interesting weekend for the Hot Seat Rankings. Will Muschamp found a way to beat Georgia. Derek Mason won, too, and his offense scored 42 points in the process. Butch Jones won his first SEC game of the season, and came back from a two touchdown deficit to do so.

A lot changed as far as these coaches’ job statuses are concerned, but not much changed in the order of the Hot Seat Rankings. Let’s take a look.

THE HOT SEAT

1. Will Muschamp: The Gators showed they’re still playing for their coach in last week’s improbable win over Georgia, and Muschamp managed to save his job for at least another week. Florida faces Vanderbilt this weekend, so it is safe to say he’ll have a job next week as well. The Gators don’t actually have another team with a winning record left on their schedule until the season finale against Florida State, so it’s likely Muschamp will be able to finish the season as the head coach. As for next season? That’s a completely different story.

THE WARM SEATS

2. Bret Bielema: Bielema has come close to earning his first SEC win in losses to Texas A&M, Alabama and Mississippi State last week, but his team has failed to capitalize on any of those opportunities. He’s now 0-13 in the SEC as coach of the Razorbacks and through 10 weeks the Hogs’ loss to Georgia remains the SEC West’s only loss outside the division. Bielema is almost certain to keep his job next year, but if he can’t win a conference game before the end of this season he’ll be on thin ice when next season begins.

3. Derek Mason: The Commodores wrapped up the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 3-1 record, although the three wins came against two relatively new FBS programs and an FCS school, and the loss came by 30 at home against Temple. What’s more significant is Mason is in danger of finishing his first season on the job without an SEC win, meaning he’ll have a lot to prove at the beginning of next year. Vandy won’t fire Mason after one bad season, but college football has become a “what have you done for me lately” kind of sport, and Mason’s Dores will need to pick up the pace sooner than later for their coach to stick around long-term.
