Here’s a few players to watch in today’s SEC Championship set to kickoff on CBS at 4 p.m. ET at the Georgia Dome:

Alabama

Derrick Henry, RB

The consensus favorite to win the Heisman Trophy, Henry is coming off a 46-carry, 271-yard performance against Auburn in the Iron Bowl, in which he added his 22nd rushing touchdown of the season. It was Henry’s fourth game of the season rushing for at least 200 yards, all against SEC opponents. Henry is also within reach of several SEC rushing records.

Reggie Ragland, LB

Alabama’s senior leader on defense leads the team in tackles with 90 — the next closest player only has 58. Another likely award winner for the Crimson Tide, he is considered by many to be the frontrunner for the Nagurski and Bednarik awards, given each year to the nation’s best defensive player and linebacker, respectively. He’s great at rushing the passer and defending the run, but can also make plays when he drops back into coverage. Ragland has 2.5 sacks and 6 pass breakups this season.

Jonathan Allen, DE

Tied for third in the SEC with 9 sacks, Allen stands out on a defensive line that is one of the best in the nation, rotating eight or so players in and out. Despite having to split time with other talented players, Allen has 11.5 tackles for loss and four pass breakups this season. A’Shawn Robinson and Jarran Reed are Allen’s teammates along Alabama’s defensive front capable of causing havoc for Florida’s offense.

Florida

Treon Harris, QB

Coming off his worst performance of the season last week against Florida State, Harris will have to bounce back for the Gators to have any chance at an SEC title. Although Harris had trouble moving the ball against the Seminoles, he stopped his streak of turning the ball over. He had thrown at least one interception in the three games prior to last week. Though Harris is not an ideal fit for Jim McElwain’s offense, perhaps some tweaks can be made for the game to give him a better chance of success.

Kelvin Taylor, RB

If Taylor can take over for the offense, Florida might not need all that much from Harris. But that won’t be easy against one of the nation’s nastiest defensive fronts. But Taylor is in the midst of a breakout season with a current streak of three consecutive 100-yard rushing games. After just one 100-yard rushing game the previous two years, Taylor has five this season and another in which he ran for 99. His 13 rushing touchdowns are the most of any Florida running back since his father, Fred Taylor, had that many. Henry and Taylor were both highly recruited out of Florida and are good friends, giving them extra incentive to try to outdo each other.

Jarrad Davis, LB

The Gators’ leader with 86 tackles will be most important in trying to neutralize Henry and Alabama’s strong rushing attack. Though needed to do a lot for a Florida linebacking corps that lacks depth, Davis usually answers the call. He had 9 tackles or more in three of the Gators’ last four games. He is also tied for third on the team with 3.5 sacks. Florida’s other starting linebacker, Antonio Morrison, is a bit gimpy, so Davis needs to have a strong game.
