SEC names Basketball Players of the Week for Week 7
Some lights-out shooting performances earned two players the honor of SEC Co-Player of the Week this week.
Alabama guard John Petty Jr. and South Carolina guard Jair Bolden both received the award after both had a tremendous week for their respective team. Meanwhile, Georgia guard Sahvir Wheeler was named SEC Freshman of the Week.
Petty scored 39 points in Alabama’s win over Samford last Wednesday, going 12-for-18 and matching his own school record with 10 3-pointers. He also had 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals in the victory.
Then, Petty had another double-double in the Crimson Tide’s win over Belmont on Saturday, collecting 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Bolden scored 22 points on 8-for-13 shooting in South Carolina’s upset road win at Virginia on Sunday. He scored 15 of those points in the first half and went 4-for-6 from 3-point range.
A solid all-around performance earned Wheeler the freshman honor for this week. He had nine points, eight assists, a rebound and two steals in Georgia’s win over SMU on Friday.
