SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic shares takeaways following Week 2 action
Cole Cubelic each week shares his takeaways from games across the SEC, and this week he was at the Mercer-Alabama game. But he makes sure to include comments about all 14 SEC teams.
The SEC Network sideline reporter noted how multiple teams “handled their business” against overmatched opponents. But he also noted the big SEC win for Kentucky, which Cubelic described as a “massive win” for the Cats.
Here are his takeaways:
We do it each week, MY Sunday SEC takeaways:
ALABAMA- Sleepy start. OL came alive & run game followed. Dealing with movement will be a challenge. Versatility of 21 showed. Youth in secondary will continue to grow. Overly impressed with QB. 2 will have a role. Need 31 this week.

AUBURN: Handled their business. Not as clean early. Missed some pressures. Missed some open receivers. But can’t help but be impressed with how they’ve handled 1st two weeks. Tank is amazing, cuts are as good as I’ve seen. Need a little more form the TE’s. Dominant performance.

GEORGIA: That’s a good football team they just dominated. With the backup QB. Monked deserves lot of credit. Ton of space between UGA WR’s & nearest defender on most throws. 19 continues to show why he’s so important. Reinforcements should be on the way soon. Not really needed.

LSU: Not a ton of wow factor but handled their business. Inconsistency of OL is a head scratcher. Would have liked to have seen a more enthusiastic start. Great to see some new faces stepping up on defense. 0 & 3 both looked great. Protection has to improve quickly. Must have.

MISSISSIPPI- Handled their business. The offense is special. More proof it won’t have to rely on one guy. 336 on the ground is impressive vs anyone. Plumlee role could really complicate things for defenses moving forward. Couple let downs vs the run game but overall solid outing.

SOUTH CAROLINA- Not many folks has Beamer starting 2-0. 6 looked like he might be the go to target. Liked the shot plays. OL & DL took this game. Kingsley is the real deal. Can’t keep turning it over with misery on 3rd down with what’s coming on the schedule. NOT’s always help.

TEXAS A&M- Scary one for sure. Injuries sometimes impact a plan & hurt confidence. Lack of consistent ground game alarming. OL has not gelled. Allowed some run through with recognition problems. DL found some must have plays late. Take 2-0 & move on, continue to try to build.

VANDERBILT- Just massive to end that streak. Exciting for that staff to get a positive result. Battled. Big fumble hurt early but bounced back. LB had to do too much heavy lifting. Need more up front vs run. But to turn around what we saw last week with a rod win is impressive.

KENTUCKY: Massive win for the Cats. Dominant performance from the OL. Plenty of space on so many runs. QB toughness made a big difference. CRod is incredible but the fumbles have to stop. 1 is a difference maker. Opens so much up for them. Defense got pressure when needed most.
