With the Rio Olympics in full swing, many are comparing this year’s USA basketball squad to the 1992 Dream Team that won gold in Barcelona.

Former LSU DE Marcus Spears, now an SEC Network analyst, decided to pick a dream team of his own on Wednesday. He broke down which teams’ defensive units would make up his dream team:

Defensive line: Texas A&M

Spears notes that having Myles Garrett and Daeshon Hall chasing down opposing quarterbacks and ball-carriers gives the Aggies the edge over Alabama.

Linebackers: Vanderbilt

Zach Cunningham gets all the press, but Spears said the entire Vandy linebacking corps is solid.

Cornerbacks: Kentucky

Sophomores Chris Westry and Derrick Baity are both 6 feet tall, which makes them matchup nightmares for SEC receivers.

Safeties: Alabama

Ronnie Harrison and Eddie Jackson are the best in the conference, Spears said.

Then, Spears and host Dari Nowkhah moved on to the offensive units, where Spears had some more conventional choices:

Running backs: LSU

“Not even close,” Spears said while choosing Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guice over any other school’s backs.

Quarterback: Ole Miss

“It’s Chad Kelly, for sure,” Spears said while making another no-brainer pick.

Wide receivers and tight ends: Texas A&M

“If Trevor Knight can get the ball into these playmakers’ hands, A&M can outscore a lot of people in the country,” Spears said.

Offensive line: Arkansas

“They get after it physically in practice and it carries over into the games on Saturday,” Spears said, crediting Bret Bielema’s coaching style and offensive philosophy.
