'SEC on ABC' games to feature re-orchestrated version of classic college football theme music
ESPN formally launches “SEC on ABC” productions this Saturday for Week 1 of the 2024 college football season.
There has been plenty of fan interest in what theme music will be used for the broadcasts. SEC fans became accustomed to CBS theme music, which belongs to the network, after its use for “SEC on CBS” 3:30 games, primetime doubleheaders and the SEC Championship Game.
The move from CBS to ABC means new theme music. ESPN announced Thursday that it has re-orchestrated its classic college football theme from the late 1990s/early 2000s to be used for “SEC on ABC” games.
The theme will not only be used for 3:30 p.m. ET kickoffs. ESPN says the theme music will be used for any SEC home game airing on ABC, including noon kickoffs and ABC Saturday Night Football.
“By reaching into the past and connecting with the present, ESPN is bringing a touch of tradition to a new era of televised SEC sports,” SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said via an ESPN release. “This re-orchestrated composition will enhance the presentation of SEC football on ABC by bringing a bit of nostalgia to the SEC’s new Saturday television experience.”
Many gamers will recognize the theme music. ESPN College Football theme music was used in the EA Sports “NCAA 14” college football video game. “NCAA 14” was released back in 2013 but remained the most current option for a college football video game due to player compensation and likeness rules until NIL paved the way for “College Football 25,” released in July.
“Music is a crucial element in shaping the storytelling of any broadcast,” ESPN president of content Burke Magnus said in a press release. “The opportunity to resurrect a theme song that means so much to college football fans, and so many of us at ESPN, was important as we start this new chapter in our relationship with the SEC.”
The re-orchestrated theme is set to debut on Saturday, Aug. 31 during the Miami at Florida game (3:30 p.m. ET). It will also be used for Notre Dame at Texas A&M (7:30 p.m. ET).

It really sounds like a news telecast more than a College football game theme. I really liked the CBS music, this not so much…
This has to be a troll job right? They COMPLETELY left OleMiss off the video… Tons of Florida, Texas, Mizzu, and Vandy lol. The video and music are both awful.
Is Ole Miss still playing football? I thought they quit several years ago?
That is awful. Just play Luke Combs “South on Ya” and everyone gets fired up.
Weak.
What is this… Wheel of Fortune?! Just horrible…
Thanks, I hate it.
