Here’s a look at some notable streaks that were extended or shattered by the SEC teams that were in action in Week 8.
Alabama is now on a nine-game winning streak against Tennessee dating back to 2007, Nick Saban’s first season in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide’s longest stretch of dominance over the Vols was an 11-game streak from 1971-81. Meanwhile, RB Derrick Henry has scored a touchdown (rushing or receiving) in 13 straight games, extending the Crimson Tide record for consecutive games accounting for a TD, which was previously held by former Tide quarterback Terry Davis.
Auburn is winless in all five games against Arkansas when both teams were unranked in the AP Poll. The two teams tied in 1992, and the Razorbacks have won each of the three meetings since (1999, 2009, 2012 and 2015).
Arkansas has won back-to-back one-possession games after losing nine straight dating back to Bret Bielema’s first season in Fayetteville in 2013. The Razorbacks ended the skid with a 24-20 win over the Vols on Oct. 3.
Kentucky‘s 42-16 loss to Mississippi State emphatically put an end to the Wildcats’ seven-game streak of games decided by one possession (8 or fewer points), dating back to the team’s 44-40 loss at Louisville to end last season.
LSU RB Leonard Fournette rushed for 150 yards on Saturday against Western Kentucky. Fournette has hit the mark in seven straight games, or in other words, every game this season. The players with the next-most games with at least 150 rushing yards are Florida State’s Dalvin Cook and Old Dominion’s Ray Lawry, who only four 150-yard games apiece, but neither had a streak longer than two games.
Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott saw his streak of consecutive passes without an interception end at 288, which sits as the 3rd-longest streak in SEC history. Prescott fell 4 passes shy of passing Georgia’s David Greene (291) for the 2nd-longest streak in SEC history and 38 passes away from passing Kentucky’s Andre Woodson (325) for the longest streak ever. Here’s a streak MSU fans should like: Mississippi State has not allowed a fourth-quarter TD in any of its eight games this season, the only SEC team that can say that.
Missouri has scored 6 points or fewer in three straight games. That’s the longest streak for Missouri since 1943. The Tigers also have another streak of three, as in their three-game losing streak. That’s tied for the 2nd-longest losing streak since Gary Pinkel became the Tigers coach in 2001. The longest skid under Pinkel was five games in 2004.
Ole Miss WR Laquon Treadwell has caught a pass in every game he’s played for the Rebels, a span of 30 straight games, which is the longest current streak by an SEC player.
Tennessee has lost 23 straight games on the road to ranked opponents, the last one coming in a 51-33 win at No. 10 Georgia on Oct. 7, 2006. The Vols have also lost 11 straight against SEC West teams. UT hasn’t defeated a West team since beating Ole Miss 52-14 on Nov. 13, 2010.
Texas A&M only posted 192 yards of total offense in Saturday’s 23-3 loss to Ole Miss. That’s the worst offensive output for the Aggies since Oct. 18 at Alabama, a span of 11 games where they put up at least 200 yards. Those are the only two games in which Texas A&M has failed to hit 200 yards since Kevin Sumlin became coach in 2012.
Vanderbilt ended its 11-game losing streak in SEC games, which was the longest active losing streak in the conference entering Week 8. The only school with a longer losing streak against its respective conference was Colorado, which ended its 14-game losing streak to Pac-12 teams after a 17-13 win over Oregon State on Saturday.
