Here’s a look at some notable streaks by SEC teams that are still alive and well heading into next season.

Alabama enters next season on a 12-game win streak, the longest active run in the FBS. Can you guess the school that currently has the next-longest? That would be San Diego State, which finished the 2015 season on a 10-game win streak and capped it with a dominant 42-7 win over Cincinnati in the Hawaii Bowl … I think it’s also safe to say the defending national champion Crimson Tide will extend its streak of being ranked in the AP preseason top five to eight straight seasons. In fact, the Tide has been ranked among the top three to begin each of the last six seasons.

Auburn has enjoyed seven straight seasons with a 1,000-yard rusher. That’s the longest streak for any team in SEC history. That string dates back to 2009 with Ben Tate, followed by Cam Newton and Michael Dyer in 2010, Dyer in 2011, Tre Mason in 2012, Nick Marshall and Mason in 2013, Cameron Artis-Payne in 2014 and Peyton Barber in 2015.

Arkansas enters next season on a three-year run of leading the SEC in sacks allowed. The Razorbacks allowed just eight in 2013, 14 in 2014 and 14 again in 2015 … The Hogs have scored at least 28 points in each of their last seven games. That tied Alabama for the longest streak in the conference this past season, and both are active streaks.

Florida being unranked in the AP preseason poll for a third straight season is a possibility next fall. The Gators hadn’t been left out like that since a three-season stretch from 1988-90 … Florida faces Kentucky and Tennessee in Weeks 2 and 4, respectively next season. UF has a chance to extend the FBS’ longest active win streak for one team over another with win No. 30 in a row over the Wildcats. Meanwhile, it can extend its run of dominance against the Vols to 12 … Florida will enter the 2016 season having won 26 straight season-openers. That became the longest active streak in the FBS when Nebraska lost to BYU in Week 1 of this past season.

Georgia finished the 2015 season on a five-game win streak. Amazingly, the Bulldogs had only finished off a season having won at least five straight two other times in Mark Richt’s 15-year tenure as head coach: five straight in 2002 and seven straight in 2007 … UGA has appeared in 19 straight bowl games, the 3rd-longest active streak in the country behind Florida State (34) and Virginia Tech (23).

Kentucky has failed to reach six wins for five straight seasons. If the ‘Cats fall short of six wins yet again in 2016, it would be the school’s worst such streak of futility since an eight-season string from 1966-73 … UK hasn’t had a winning season in six seasons. To put that into perspective, that’s three times as long as the next-worst active stretch, which belongs to Vanderbilt at two seasons.

LSU has recorded at least eight wins in 16 straight seasons dating back to Nick Saban’s first season as head coach in Baton Rouge in 2000. This streak matches Tennessee’s from 1989-2004 for the longest streak in SEC history … LSU has won 52 straight non-conference games in the regular season, which is the longest streak in the nation. The Tigers’ last such loss came all the way back in the 2002 season-opener against Virginia Tech. LSU will put its streak on the line against Wisconsin to kick off next season.

Mississippi State has posted at least nine wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time in school history. The Bulldogs tied a single-season school record with 10 in 2014. For context, consider that MSU has enjoyed three of its seven all-time seasons with at least nine wins under coach Dan Mullen (the school’s nine wins in 1976 were forfeited by the NCAA) … Mississippi State has reached a bowl in six straight seasons. The school’s longest streak of bowl appearances prior to that was three from 1998-2000 under coach Jackie Sherrill.

Missouri‘s defense has recorded at least 100 tackles for loss in three consecutive seasons. That marked the first and only time the Tigers accomplished that feat under coach Gary Pinkel … Missouri has gone 11 straight games without passing for 300 yards after going for 319 in the 2015 season-opener against SE Missouri State. On that note, Mizzou only posted three 200-yard passing games, the fewest in the SEC.

Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly has thrown a touchdown pass in 13 straight games, which includes every game in 2015. Can you guess which returning SEC quarterback will have the next-longest streak entering 2016? That would be South Carolina’s Perry Orth with just four … The Rebels will be looking to make it three straight wins over Alabama next season. The last SEC team to post three straight wins over the Crimson Tide? LSU back in 2003 under none other than Nick Saban.

South Carolina will enter the 2016 season on a five-game losing streak, which is the longest active skid in the SEC. The Gamecocks open at Vanderbilt to begin next season, and if they lose, it would be their longest losing streak since dropping 21 in a row during the 1998-99 seasons … South Carolina will face Clemson for a 108th straight season in 2016, having played every season since 1909. Only the Minnesota-Wisconsin rivalry has a longer active streak, being played for a 109th straight time last season.

Tennessee will look to extend its winning streak to seven games when it faces Appalachian State in the 2016 season opener. It would be the Vols’ first seven-game win streak since 2001 … UT has won back-to-back bowl games, the first time it’s done that since winning three straight from 1994-96 with Peyton Manning under center.

Texas A&M has been ranked among the AP top 10 at some point in each of the last five seasons, which is tied for the longest streak in Aggies history, done two previous times from 1974-78 and 1991-95 … Texas A&M has reached a bowl game in seven straight seasons, which is two longer than the school had ever done previously.

Vanderbilt will open the 2016 season against South Carolina, having lost seven straight meetings in the series. Another loss to the Gamecocks would mark the Commodores’ longest losing streak in the rivalry.
