Every Thursday, we rank the SEC and ACC teams in one power poll. The order of the SEC teams is based on our SDS Power Rankings and does not deviate.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF CONTENDERS

1. Mississippi State (8-0)
2. Florida State (8-0)
3. Alabama (7-1)
4. Auburn (7-1)
5. Ole Miss (7-2)

DIVISION FAVORITES + AT-LARGE POSSIBILITIES

6. LSU (7-2): Ranked just outside the College Football Playoff selection committee’s Top 15, the Tigers have a grand opportunity Saturday night at home against hated rival Alabama. Vegas odds have the Crimson Tide as the national favorite at the moment and a win over the CFP’s fifth-ranked team would boost LSU’s resume and perhaps vault the Tigers into a New Year’s Six bowl game at year’s end.

7. Georgia (6-2)
8. Clemson (6-2)
9. Duke (7-1)
10. Mizzou (7-2)

JACKETS, HURRICANES SURGE TOWARD TOP 10

11. Georgia Tech (7-2)

12. Miami (6-3): Equipped with one of the nation’s top running backs in Duke Johnson, a lock to be Doak Walker award finalist, Miami’s won three consecutive games convincingly and has an extra week to prepare for a Nov. 15 battle against Florida State. Johnson’s recorded five straight 100-yard games and has scored a touchdown in every game except the opener this season.

13. Texas A&M (6-3)
14. Louisville (6-3)
15. Florida (4-3)

ONE OF THESE THREE COULD PLAY SPOILER

16. Arkansas (4-5): Over their final three SEC games, the Razorbacks battle LSU, Ole Miss and Mizzou, competitors jockeying for bowl position during the home stretch. Mizzou’s the current Eastern Division frontrunner and needs to win out to secure a spot in Atlanta. Arkansas, though widely-respected nationally, is hoping to snap a 13-game SEC losing skid. Boston College travels to Florida State on Nov. 22 with a chance to upend the Seminoles’ shot at another national championship.

17. Boston College (6-3)
18. N.C. State (5-4)

AVERAGE TEAMS STILL IN BOWL CONTENTION

19. Kentucky (5-4)
20. Pittsburgh (4-5)
21. Tennessee (4-5)
22. Virginia (4-5)

DEFENSE OPTIONAL

23. North Carolina (4-5)

24. South Carolina (4-5): The Gamecocks are in danger of missing the postseason for the first time since 2007 after last weekend’s overtime loss to Tennessee, the third time this season South Carolina’s squandered a two-touchdown deficit in the fourth quarter to lose. Steve Spurrier’s team must beat South Alabama and split games at Florida and Clemson over their final three games to ensure a bowl berth.

25. Virginia Tech (4-5)
26. Syracuse (3-6)

MAYBE NEXT YEAR

27. Vanderbilt (3-6)
28. Wake Forest (2-6)
