Eight laterals, a knee that was clearly down, a couple blocks in the back and a player running onto the field from the sideline without a helmet.

The final play in Miami’s improbable win over Duke left most college football fans outside of Coral Gables, Florida searching for answers as to how the Hurricanes’ kickoff return for a touchdown stood as time expired.
The ACC’s officiating crew immediately came under scrutiny as video evidence revealed what appeared to be several missed calls.
“The guy was down,” Duke coach David Cutcliffe said.
Here’s what was said on Twitter from media members, viewers and others after the wild play may have snuffed out Duke’s eventual division championship:
“The ACC has some explaining to do to Duke and to others,” Mike Pereira, Former NFL VP of officiating.

“Thanks to replay, they have a mess on their hands.” Former VP of NFL Officials per A.P. on the ACC missing a knee down and blocks in back — Blue Devil Nation (@BlueDevilNation) November 1, 2015

Really, the ACC should actually go further and reverse the “outcome” of the game. The Miami ball carrier was clearly and obviously down… — Michael Wilbon (@RealMikeWilbon) November 1, 2015
ACC gotta fire those refs right?

Just saw Miami replay. It’s embarrassing the refs had a 9 minute review and didn’t catch the runners knee down. They should be suspended. — robert smith (@ESPNRobertSmith) November 1, 2015
Just watched last 2:00 of the Duke/Miami. Wow ACC refs are a disaster. All of Duke’s last possession and the kickoff was cherry on top

Apparently the refs were so mesmerized by Miami’s laterals that they chose to suspend rules enforcement. — Hank Dudding (@HankDudding) November 1, 2015
I’ve watched the reply about five times now, and that Miami players knee is down! Still can’t figure out how the refs missed it.

I clicked video of Miami’s miracle finish. The ad that ran before it was the State Farm refs making up a call after missing a play. Fitting. — Matt Fortuna (@Matt_Fortuna) November 1, 2015
That is the worst call I have ever witnessed in my entire life. Fire all of those refs please
— Ryan Barber (@thebarber6) November 1, 2015
How can you challenge a block in the back penalty? That mean you can challenge holding calls too? Worst call I've ever seen. Unreal.

#dukefootball gutless refs, #1 was on his stomach when he pitched the ball. Worst call I have ever seen. Replay is worthless.
